Jello shots have led to a DUI charge for a Barrington woman, 48.

Donna Allyn, of 153 Lincoln Ave., was stopped Wednesday evening, Dec. 19, after her vehicle was observed swerving across double-yellow lines and almost driving into a head-on crash with another vehicle, said Barrington Police Chief John LaCross.

A patrol officer followed her vehicle north on County Road and caught up with it on Hilltop Lane about 9:30 pm, said LaCross. It also straddled the fog line for a while after avoiding the vehicle coming in the opposite direction. 

Five Jello shots – several partially consumed – were found on the floor in the back seat of Allyn’s vehicle, LaCross said. She demonstrated some of the classic characteristics of someone who had too much to drink, he said, including bloodshot and watery eyes.

She agreed to take a field sobriety test, which she failed, according to the police report. Allyn refused to take a Breathalyzer test, LaCross said, the second time she has refused the chemical test according to her driving record.

Allyn told police she was returning from a party in Fall River. She was taken to the police station and charged with drunk driving and refusing to take a chemical test.

Allyn was held overnight before given a date in District Court to face the charges.
