Jazz Musicians Rack Up Awards
Barrington High School's jazz musicians brought back several honors from the annual Berklee College Jazz Festival.
Barrington High School's jazz ensemble matched its best showing ever at the annual Berklee College Jazz Festival in Boston last weekend -- a second-place finish in its class.
And two of the students earned "Outstanding Musican" awards, said Barbara Hughes, music director at the high school.
"Our jazz ensemble came in second and earned three partial scholarships to summer study," said Hughes. "And our jazz combo came in fourth."
Riley Saeger, on the alto sax, was named outstanding musician for the large ensemble, Hughes said.
William Casazza, on the bass, was named outstanding musician for the combo category, she said.
The competition attracts thousands of the best musicians from hundreds of schools across the country, said Hughes. Barrington previously had earned second-, third- and fourth-place awards.
