Five warranty deeds for properties that changed hands -- including one showing a million-dollar sale -- were recorded in the Barrington Town Hall last week, Sept. 30-Oct. 6.

The million-dollar sale was the well-known stone house on the curve at 6 Stone Tower Lane.

The other warranty deeds ranged from $230,000 to $312,000 for homes near the country club on Middle Highway, near Haines Memorial State Park, in the middle school plat area and on New Meadow Road.

All of the homes can give you some idea of the price of Barrington properties in the current real estate market.

4 affordable houses sold out of 5. Again the record shows that Barrington has an abundance of affordable homes already.

RI Housing calculates the purchase price of an affordable home based on household size, median income for the area, anticipated taxes and mortgage payments.

The calculated price is what the homeowner pays after "purchase grants" are provided by the government (i.e. the actual home sale = "grants plus what the buyer pays")

For a Barrington household of two adults and three children, this turns out to be $346,000 AFTER THE GRANTS ARE PAID!

More than 1/3rd of Barrington homes fall under $346,000 based on the latest tax roll. So why is it that Barrington has only 160 affordable homes according to the Town Council?

It's because the numbers are rigged to promote a bogus government program convincing residents that we need lots of build out. It is developer friendly, and resident unfriendly in that our property taxes are increased because of the property tax subsides we all have to pay.

This bogus program must be challenged!!!!
