Hampden Meadows Principal Named
Tracey McGee, principal at Colt Andrews School in Bristol, is approved by the Barrington School Committee at a special meeting on Tuesday evening.
Hampden Meadows Elementary School in Barrington has a new principal.
The School Committee approved the appointment of Tracey McGee in a special session Tuesday night, July 31, in the high school library. The appointment fills the third of five top administrative positions that opened up in Barrington this year.
McGee was introduced by Superintendent Mike Messore as the new Hampden Meadows principal, a post that was filled for more than a dozen years by Arlene Miguel, who retired recently to take a position in Massachusetts. McGee plans to start at Hampden Meadows on Monday, Aug. 6.
McGee comes to Barrington from Colt-Andrews Elementary School in Bristol, where she served as principal for the past four years. She has served in the Bristol-Warren schools for 25 years.
McGee also has been the principal of the former Reynolds Arts Magnet Elementary School in Bristol and the former Mary V. Quirk Elementary School in Warren. She has worked at the Hugh Cole School in Bristol.
McGee has been a fifth-grade teacher and a collaborative special education teacher. She holds education degrees from Rhode Island College and Providence College and has studied educational leadership at Boston University.
Administrative positions that still need to be filled include assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction -- to fill Messore's previous position and middle school principal, a position filled by Richard Wheeler for more than 20 years.
Messore announced at Tuesday’s meeting that an interview with a candidate for assistant superintendent will be held Thursday at 6 pm. He also said that there will be a principal in place at the middle school by opening day, although that could mean someone in an interim position.
