Get Rid of Unwanted Rx Drugs

Saturday, Sept. 29, is another 'Drug Take Back' in the lobby of the Barrington police station hosted by The BAY Team; it runs from 10 to 2.

Empty your medicine cabinet of unwanted and expired prescription drugs on Saturday, Sept. 29.

The BAY Team and the Barrington Police Department hosts another “Drug Take Back” in the lobby of the police station on Federal Road. It runs from 10 am to 2 pm.

All of the potentially dangerous expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs will be picked by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and destroyed.

“Our local Drug Take Back events have been very successful," said Kathleen Sullivan, program director for the BAY Team, Barrington's prevention coalition. “We appreciate the time and effort that community members take to rid their homes of potentially dangerous medications.”

The service is free and anonymous, said Sullivan. No questions asked.

This initiative addresses a vital public safety and public health issue, she said. Many Americans are not aware that medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse and abuse. Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including from the home medicine cabinet.

So, empty out your medicine cabinet tomorrow, Sullivan said.
