The Barrington District Nursing Association Fund at The Rhode Island Foundation is seeking proposals for programs that support the physical and mental health and well-being of Barrington residents.
Any Rhode Island nonprofit organization providing health care, health education or basic needs to Barrington residents is eligible to apply. Grants generally range from $1,000 to $15,000. The application deadline is Tuesday, Feb. 1.
Grants made in 2009 from this fund supported Barrington TAP-IN, the Bayside YMCA, East Bay Center, Friends of Barrington Senior Center, Home and Hospice Care of RI, Homefront Health Care, Meals on Wheels of RI, VNA of RI, and Visiting Nurse Services of Newport and Bristol Counties.
Incorporated in 1923, the Barrington District Nursing Association ceased operation in 1968 with the formation of the East Shore District Nursing Association from a number of smaller agencies, including the Barrington-based one. In 1989, the board of the Barrington District Nursing Association voted to turn its assets over to The Rhode Island Foundation and create the fund that bears the organization’s name and continues at least part of its mission.
