Barrington High School senior Liz Teitz is “retiring.”

Liz, the first-ever student representative to the Barrington School Committee, attended her final meeting Thursday evening after spending a school year on the board. Her seat on the School Committee will be filled in a couple of weeks by junior Faith Moses -- the second student to be picked for the board.

Liz leaves the School Committee with the respect and admiration of the entire School Committee, as their comments to her Thursday evening show.

“You’ve set a high standard for your successor. You are a trailblazer,” said School Committee member Kate Brody, who was the primer supporter of bringing a student on the board as an advisory member. “We know that when you had something to say, you said it.”

“You are kind, humble and helpful,” said Scott Fuller, vice chairman of the School Committee.

“You set the bar very high,” said Chris Ramsden, a School Committee member.

Liz also left her final meeting with a gift from the board -- a picture to hang on the wall of her dormitory room at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., where she will enroll in the fall.

The picture includes five examples of architecture in Washington that spells out HOYAS – the nickname of Georgetown’s athletics teams.
