Dolphins Sighted off Barrington Beach

Sighting of a pod of dolphins this far north in Narragansett Bay is considered rare.

Teresa Sarli of Barrington reported a rare sighting of a pod of dolphins Thursday off of Barrington Beach.

“Wow...never before seen dolphins off this beach!” Sarli told Patch. “They are here right now, six or seven of them, three hundred yards south of Bay Road.”

“I did call Save The Bay, and they confirmed to me such a sighting is rare,” she said. “I'm thinking they might stay around a few days.  I live at the beach. I'll keep an eye on them.”

The dolphins eventually swam as far north in the bay to around Providence's Fields Point, according to Save the Bay.
