Marathon Draws New, Veteran Runners

The Cox Sports Marathon drew more than 1,200 runners to Barrington on Sunday morning; the course wound on several roads, the East Bay Bike Path and through Haines Memorial State Park.

More than 1,300 runners raced through Barrington Sunday morning in the fifth Cox Sports Marathon, which wound its way back and forth from Providence through Riverside and Barrington.

There were some slight traffic delays on several roads, but officers kept traffic moving freely as the runners got a good glimpse of Barrington, including parts of the East Bay Bike Path, Washington Road, Maple Avenue, Middle Highway, Nayatt Road, the Rhode Island Country Club, and Haines Memorial State Park.

The first runners got to Barrington around 8:15 am; the race started in downtown Providence at 7:30 am.

Results were not posted on the Cox Rhode Races website by early evening. But check back there for the results later in the day.

The overall winner was Patrick Moulton, 30, of Providence, a former runner at Providence College, in a time of 2:28:26, according to the Providence Journal.

Sarah Bourne, 26, of Brookline, Mass., won the woman’s race in a time of 2:53:44. She is a former Harvard runner and is a Vanderbilt medical student, according to the Providence Journal.

The course is USATF certified and the race was a 2013 Boston Marathon qualifier.
