Boy, 16, Busted With Bong on Playground

Barrington police charge boy with marijuana possession after an officer finds pot and bong in a backpack at the Nayatt School playground.

A 16-year-old boy from Providence found some trouble in Barrington early Sunday afternoon, Sept. 9, during a routine check of Nayatt School by a police officer.

Patrolman Anthony DeCristofaro spotted two boys on the playground behind the elementary school on Nayatt Road at about 12:47 pm. One of the boys was carrying a black backpack, which seemed suspicious to the officer, said Police Chief John LaCross.

The patrol officer approached the two boys. He smelled the odor of marijuana in the air, said LaCross.

A search of the backpack found some unburned marijuana and a bong used to smoke cannabis and tobacco.  The boy was arrested and taken to the police station, where he was charged with possession of marijuana.

The juvenile was released to his parents with a Family Court date later that afternoon.

‘Scuse me, Dean-Scotty,
there are more questions now.
This is confusing & knotty.
So we need your pro-forma know-how.

Once the new Rec Center
& Police Cove Fantasy Land are built
and the folks are bused in
and Barrington is full to the hilt….
with every inch of land finally &
mightily overbuilt...

when a tokin’-teen from Providence
is caught at Nayatt School
just enjoyin’ his bong
with his friends...
hey, it's a free world....

will he have to suffer the inconvenience
of toting his backpack full of fun
back to Barrington to the new Municipal Court?

Or can he still go to court in Providence
where it’s more convenient for him & his folks?

And will the Barrington police overtime
just add up times the smokes?

Thank you June & Jeff & Cindy & Kate.

For allowing the Barrington taxpayers to host all this fun.

The Town Solicitor must be laughing
all the way
to the banks
that just got robbed.
