High School Fall Athletes Earn Honors

Fifty Eagles were recognized for their accomplishments; 15 athletes were named All-State; one named an All-American.

Fifty student-athletes from Barrington High School received post-season honors for achievements this past fall, including 15 athletes named All-State and one All-State athlete named All-American.

Two of the All-Staters, senior Taylor Rideout, the All-American, and sophomore Abigail Livingston, have been nominated for Cox Sports Athlete of the Year award in field hockey and cross country, respectively.

Taylor helped the Eagles win their second state championship in the last three years by tallying 13 goals and a league-high 17 assists. She also made first-team All-State last season.

“Making All-State again is a great feeling,” said Taylor. “During the season, the entire emphasis is on team, which is the way it should be. I am thankful for this award because it recognizes my effort this year.”

Teammate Kelly Dolan had 18 goals and 11 assists during the regular season, which earned the junior first-team All-State honors. Kelly was the hero of the playoffs, scoring the game-winning goals in the semifinals and the finals, for which she was named MVP of the post-season.

Abigail was one of four Eagles to make All-State in cross country. Sophomore Megan Verner-Crist and junior Fiona Paine joined her on the first team, while Alice Burgess was named to the third team.

Last year, Abigail burst onto the cross-country scene by making first team All-State as a freshman. This season, she finished second at the Class A Championship, third at the state championship, 21st at the New England championships and 32nd at the Nike northeast regional qualifier.

In boys’ cross country, Connor Royley and Dylan Verner-Crist made second and third team All-State respectively. Connor finished 12th at the state championship.

“Going into the season, my personal goal was to make All-State,” said Connor. “To do as well as I did at the state championship was slightly surprising, but not a shock, because I know how hard I trained during the summer and during the season.”

A pair of football players also made All-State -- running back Drew Brown and defensive back and quarterback Jack Ryan. Both were named to the second team.

“I was happy that our team was recognized in the form of two All-Staters,” said Jack. “It says a lot about the team as a whole when individuals get recognized. Without the 40 kids practicing hard every day, we would not have had the personal stats that we were able to achieve.”

On the soccer field, two boys and one girl were named All-State. Junior Andrew Jones and senior Ian Duncan represented the boys’ program as first team All-Staters and Chelsea Larissa made second team All-State for the girls.

Andrew made the first team for the second time. The goalkeeper made 109 saves this season. Ian, who also play for a New England Revolution under-16 team, had five goals and four assists as a defenseman.
