Barrington Fire Fighters Not Soliciting

Ignore a telephone call you receive that says the fire department is seeking donations.

No, the Barrington Fire Department is not seeking donations.

Fire Chief Gerald Bessette issued an announcement this morning, Sept. 12, that said: "The Barrington Fire Department IS NOT soliciting at this time."

Apparentely, the police dispatch center has received calls from residents who said they are being contacted by a fire department seeking donations.

The caller may work for a legitimate fundraising organization, according to the police. But they are not working for the Barrington Fire Department right now.

I hate this. So many town fire depts. do great things with donated dollars and things like this just make folks hesitate to give money. Always a good idea though to call your town department when someone is soliciting donations.

I don't care for the boot campaigns these people do. It backs up traffic for miles. We had one of these deals for MD campaigns over the labor day weekend in Coventry and the police finally had to clear the firemen out of there. Backed up traffic to the point of blocking driveways to businesses. Enough of this and I wonder who pays the firefighters to do this in the first place? Tying up town assets for this also raises questions.

Well Mr. Govstench. I am sure they are so very sorry that you are perfectly healthy and don't have a friend or relative with MD. Why don't you get off your high horse and get a life for the extra minute I was backed up in traffic that day and glady gave. Loser.
