Barrington police have issued a warrant for a North Providence man who allegedly stole a car and then reportedly used it to drive to Rhode Island Country Club where he attempted to steal parts from a truck in a garage. The vehicle was recovered.
The man is believed to be an employee of the country club. He allegedly was stripping LED lights from a truck with a plow. There was also damage to the ignition, according to Barrington Police Chief John LaCross.
The man reportedly was spotted in a garage at the country club around 10 am Sunday morning, Feb. 3. He fled from the country club in a Buick LaSabre that was later found parked along Legion Way in Barrington near the pumping station.
Police officers conducted a search of the areas around the East Bay Bike Path, County Road south of Maple Avenue and the wooded area around Rumstick Road without success.
RIPTA also was contacted with the man’s description. Several homeowners on Middle Highway also were contacted to determine if they spotted anyone fitting the man's description walking in that area, said the police chief.
The stolen vehicle was towed to the impound lot. It was to be returned to its owner.
