The nation's 78 million Baby Boomers are entering their mid-60s, and many will be contracting Alzheimer's, which now affects one in every six people over 65 and one in every two people over 85, Rubin said. The growing need for dementia care led to the development of the new Life Guidance neighborhood, Rubin said.

“With an aging population and Alzheimer's disease on the rise, memory care is a growing need in Rhode Island and across the nation,” said Todd Smith, executive director at Atria Bay Spring Village. “The additional Life Guidance apartments will provide older people living with memory impairments an opportunity to live in a comfortable setting designed with dignity and safety in mind. This expansion helps us provide the highest quality of life possible for older people in the most comfortable surroundings.”

This renovation brings the community a total of 25 Life Guidance apartments to meet the increasing demand for memory care. The new Life Guidance neighborhood features a spacious living room, dining room, library, and a secure outdoor courtyard, and the apartments have also been upgraded, including carpet, paint and new bathroom fixtures, cabinets and surfaces.
