'Road Rage' Attack at Police Cove

A Barrington man, 20, has been charged with disorderly conduct and vandalism after he allegedly pounded on the roof of woman's car after a driving incident on County Road.

Apparent "road rage" got the better of a 20-year-old Barrington man late Wednesday morning, May 23. He now faces disorderly conduct and vandalism charges after scaring a Warren woman with an alleged attack on her car.

Corey Galvin, of 125 Whipple Ave., allegedly pounded on the roof of a car driven by the woman after he thought she cut him off at the intersection of Rumstick Road and County Road around 11:45 am, according to Barrington police.

Both vehicles were traveling south on County Road, police said. Galvin began yelling at the woman because he thought she almost hit him with her vehicle where the two lanes narrow to one at Rumstick Road, she told police. She said that he cut her off, police said. He denied her version of the incident.

Both vehicles continued to travel south – her car trailing his car -- and then both vehicles pulled into the same place -- the police cove parking area near the Andreozzi Bridge over the Barrington River, police said. Galvin reportedly pulled to the rear of the lot; she parked near the entrance to call the police, she told police.

While the woman was contacting the police, Galvin allegedly ran up to her vehicle and began pounding on the roof while yelling at her. Her call to the police dispatcher was described as “frantic”; she also said she had a baby in the backseat of the car.

Several police patrol cars raced to police cove, police said, suspecting a possible carjacking attempt. Galvin allegedly ran off into the nearby residential neighborhood after seeing the approaching patrol cars.

Galvin was caught within minutes in the backyard of a house at 94 County Road, police said.

The woman was not injured. Her vehicle had several dents in the roof, police said.
