5 Girls, 4 Boys Qualify for New England Track Championships

Barrington High School's indoor track teams finished 4th and 6th at the state championships last weekend.

 

Barrington High School’s girls’ and boys’ indoor track teams finished fourth and sixth, respectively, at the RI state championship meet last weekend, according to the Barrington Times, with nine of the athletes qualifying for the New England championships.

Girls scoring points and qualifying for the New England Interscholastic Championships on March 2 were: Abby Livingston in the 600 meters, Megan Verner-Crist in the 1500 meters, Shenelle Teixeira in the 55m hurdles, and the 4×800 meter relay team -- Livingston, Verner-Crist, junior Julianna Portelli, and freshman Julia Zitzmann.

Boys qualifying for the New England championships were: senior Charlie Ionata, a nationally ranked hammer throw, who won the event, and sophomore Adam Kelly, who finished second in the weight throw; senior Tom Barry, who took second place in the 1000 meters, and senior Conner Royley in the 3000 meters.

The New England Championship will be held in Boston at the Reggie Lewis Center.
