143 Pounds of Rx Drugs Turned In
Another drug take-back day last Saturday at the Barrington police station resulted in the best total ever.
The numbers are in.
Almost 100 Barrington residents dropped off 143 pounds of unwanted and expired prescription drugs at a take-back day at the police station last Saturday. That total was about twice as much as the last take-back day about six months ago.
"I think the message is out there," said Kathy Sullivan, BAY Team program director about the turnout, which was the best ever.
The drug take-back day was coordinated by the police and The BAY Team, Barrington’s prevention coalition.
Sullivan said she is pleased that so many people took the time to stop by the police station. Other turns holding take-back days last Saturday had much less to show for the day. Bristol had 60 pounds; Warren had 35 pounds.
All of the drugs were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) for incineration.

Recycling drugs keeps them out of our water and soil. I want to do this. How will I remember, next time I'm cleaning out my closets, to save for the next date of pickups? When is the next date? Is this only a yearly effort? _ Diane

In partnership with the Drug Enforcement Agency, the BAY Team and Barrington Police have been offering the drug take backs every six months. Keep an eye out on Patch or the Times for the date of the next event - probably late Oct. Thank you very much for helping to keep Barrington safe!
